The 2022 winners of the prestigious Banff International String Quartet Competition appear with a compelling programme of deeply personal compositions.
The Isidore String Quartet brings together four gifted American string players to perform two works that held deep personal significance for their composers. Bela Bartks First String Quartet, inspired by the rhythms of Hungarian folk music and the composers unrequited love for the violinist Stefi Geyer, comes first.
Beethovens String Quartet in A minor shows its creator at both his most private and his most original. From his last group of late quartets, it weaves a web of startling, heartrending beauty. At the works core is the extended slow movement titled Holy song of thanksgiving of a convalescent to the Deity.
Enjoy these wonderful works in a relaxed, informal setting, performed by a ensemble of rising stars.
