Immersive Theatre: History and Inspiration
  • Edinburgh Fringe

Part of the Fringe Central Events Programme for Fringe participants. With roots in Richard Schechners environmental theatre and Grotowskis paratheatrical experiments, immersive theatre traces its origins to a company called Gorilla Rep, an idea called 'gorilla theatre', and a production of A Midsummer Nights Dream in 1989. The director of that production, founder of Gorilla Rep, and author of the book Gorilla Theatre (Routledge 2003) gives you the oral history of immersive theatre in NYC.
