The RSA was founded during the Enlightenment by William Shipley in 1754 with the first meeting being held at Rawthmells Coffee House, Covent Garden, London. Its foundation sits in the middle of an era of enlightenment societies, many of which were founded in Scotland. This year RSA Scotland has chosen to focus on the modern enlightenment. The first session will explore potential new ideas in Scottish education, using the RSAs Ideal Schools Exhibition as a basis. This exhibition explores the schools and leaders that are bucking the trend of performativity-led, inspection-focused, instrumentalist education.
