Twin sisters weave musical influences from across the globe together with multilingual lyrics and hypnotic harmonies.
Twin sisters Naomi and Lisa-Kaind Daz were born in Paris and spent the first two years of their life in Havana, Cuba. Theirs is an international sound, with lyrics in English, French, Spanish and Yoruba reflecting their Afro-Cuban roots where their ancestors were removed from Africa and taken to Cuba as slaves in the 1700s.
Growing up studying Yoruba folk songs, they were also surrounded by traditional Cuban instruments as their father was acclaimed percussionist Anga Daz, a member of the Buena Vista Social Club collective. After his death when the twins were 11, Naomi learned to play the cajn, a tall wooden box drum played with the hands.
Their blend of soulful hip hop, stunning harmonies and Afro-Cuban sounds caught the attention of Beyonc, who featured Ibeyi (which means twins in Yoruba) on her visual album Lemonade.
