Him and Me: Sketch Circus - Free

Him and Me’s circus of estranged acts consists mainly of them with the occasional homemade video thrown in for good measure. They aim to reproduce all the highs and lows of the circus, with highflying, risky, freakish entertainment that’s sometimes ‘cruel to animals.’

They sing, strip and poke ironic fun at their more obvious puns which are sometimes left lying like a dead body on the floor, for us all to gaze at. But nobody really likes looking at something that’s been and gone and their attempt to extract bucketfuls of laughter from rather dried up teats of tired material became, at times, a tad tedious. However this is not to say they weren’t worth the admission fee, which was free of course, but if they had charged a fiver you wouldn’t have felt robbed.

There were some genuine laugh out loud moments and great time and effort had gone in devising both the songs and the video interludes that allowed them time to prepare for the next sketch. One of the best examples was ‘Completely Normal Activity’ from the makers of ‘Paranormal Activity’; this sketch had a harmless endearing subtlety to it which many of the others, all too intentionally, brazened over.

A lively couple of clowns that did nearly anything to muster a laugh, except squirt water in your face – which they almost did, but of the salty variety.

Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this review has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.
