Haydn: Seven Last Words
  • Edinburgh Fringe

The Edinburgh Quartet, founded in 1960, is one of Britains foremost chamber ensembles. In 2018, the Quartet appointed the internationally-acclaimed musician Tijmen Huisingh as its new leader and first violin. Joseph Haydns The Seven Last Words of Our Saviour on the Cross was originally an orchestral work commissioned for Good Friday 1786 by the Holy Cave Oratory in Cdiz, Spain. Later, Haydn himself adapted it for string quartet.
