Have your say in the new national service standards for gender identity services! (Online)
  • UK Regional & Tours

Come along and share your views on the new national service standards for gender identity services in Scotland!

Join the Lived Experienced Coordinator and Healthcare Improvement Scotland in discussing what the first ever national standards for gender identity services in Scotland should look like.

Whats happening?

Healthcare Improvement Scotland are currently running a consultation as a part of their development of new national service standards for gender identity services. The standards will act as a benchmark for service provision, so we can know what we can expect when we use the services. They provide a national minimum level of what a good service looks like with the idea being that this makes sure people can be confident of getting person-centred, safe and effective healthcare.

The standards will cover all services that play a role in gender identity healthcare - from GPs right through to gender identity clinics.

Healthcare Improvement Scotland are now consulting on a draft of the service standards that has been developed in collaboration with NHS staff, third sector organisations and people with lived experience. You can read the draft, and respond to the consultation here.

Who is this event for?

Filling out a survey consultation isnt for everyone. So this event is for any trans or non-binary person in Scotland who is waiting to use, currently using or who has used gender identity services, whod prefer to come and share their views in a shared discussion space.

Why take part?

We'll be joined by members of the team at Healthcare Improvement Scotland who are developing the standards - so we'll be able to speak to them directly about what we like, what we don't like and what we think is missing! These will be the first national service standards that have been set for gender identity services so it's important that they hear directly from trans and non-binary people about what we need to be in them.

As well as being able to speak directly to the people developing the standards, the Lived Experience Coordinator will also use what is discussed to inform their response to the consultation. The response will be anonymised, and no information will be shared that could identify an individual.

Attending the event

This event will be held online via Microsoft Teams. An invite will be sent out ahead of the event. If you have any accessibility requirements, please get in touch with Ryan (ryan@eqaulity-network). If you require a BSL interpreter, please let us know one week in advance.

Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this review has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.

Theatre MAD
The Make A Difference Trust fights HIV & AIDS one stage at a time. Their UK and International grant-making strategy is based on five criteria that raise awareness, educate, and provide care and support for the most vulnerable in society. A host of fundraising events, including Bucket Collections, Late Night Cabarets, West End Eurovision, West End Bares and A West End Christmas continue to raise funds for projects both in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.
