Musician Hamilton de Holanda is acclaimed worldwide for his virtuoso performances on the bandolim " a version of the mandolin imported to Brazil from Portugal " which he started playing at the age of five. Over two decades ago he re-invented this eight-string instrument by adding two further low strings, giving it a deeper and more powerful tone.
Celebrated for his unique mix of classical and traditional music from his native Brazil, De Holanda has collaborated with leading international artists, including Chick Corea, John Paul Jones, Gilberto Gil and Stefano Bollani.
De Holandas performances have been praised for their dazzling virtuosity, humour and captivating tenderness (The Guardian). Join him for an International Festival performance that blends aspects of the vibrant and uplifting Brazilian choro tradition with exhilarating elements of contemporary jazz.
