This is the fifteenth successive year that Youth Arts Leicestershire have been performing at the Fringe. Their productions are always worth looking out for.
Hair! Is very much a musical of the 1960s but comes over surprisingly well in this production. It tells the story of Claude, a hippy drop-out, who is trying to prevent himself from being drafted to fight in Vietnam. Trying may be an exaggeration, as he doesnt actually want to do anything that involves effort, such as going to Canada. Also, he may subconsciously want to go in order to make his parents proud of him for once.
There are many familiar songs in the musical, or at least familiar to anyone who was around in the 1960s Aquarius, Hair, Aint Got No, Walking In Space and several others. The musical has been cut to one hour, which improves the pace. There isnt a dull moment and the young cast throw themselves into it with great energy. Well worth seeing.
