Going Straight to Gay (International Women's Day Festival)
  • London Fringe

Imagine being in a new relationship. You're in love. Everything is bliss. The person is fantastic. Even the small quirks. Ahh love... Then everything slowly crumbles. The quirks become - an annoyance. You suddenly have to embrace everything about this person that is now straight up pissing you off. Some would say it can be difficult. Then imagine you're a woman in a relationship with another woman. For the first time. Ever wondered how that might be? Soon you will. Through comedy 'Going straight to gay... or something in-between' casts a light on how society, your partner, and yourself keep your queer relationship on its toes. In a fun way. Mostly. Is it theatre? Is a lecture? Or stand-up comedy? Just like being bisexual, from time to time, it can feel like something in-between. Performed by the Tedx-speaker of 'How NOT to portray bisexuals in media' Henriette Laursen This comedic one woman show is an amusing, entertaining, heartfelt, brilliant exploration of finding yourself as an adult. Indigo Arts Collective is celebrating International Women's Day with a festival of original new work written and performed by women from across the country and around the globe. From thoughtful and funny to provocative and experimental, there's truly something for everyone. Come celebrate women's stories with us! Latecomers may not be admitted. Please arrive in good time for the start. Under 18s are not permitted into the theatre for this performance. No re-admittance once the performance has commenced. Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this review has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.

Their UK and International grant-making strategy is based on five criteria that raise awareness, educate, and provide care and support for the most vulnerable in society. A host of fundraising events, including Bucket Collections, Late Night Cabarets, West End Eurovision, West End Bares and A West End Christmas continue to raise funds for projects both in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.
