A celebration of Gay Sweatshop, a theatre company whose work played an important part in the activism of the 70s and 80s. As part of LGBTQ+ History Month we will be exploring more of their work with an afternoon featuring two readings and an informal discussion about the local impact of the group.
The company had many links with Lewisham, with founder Noel Greig setting the company up in Deptford and a few members living in the borough. Many of their plays were performed, or debuted, at the Albany.
In 1975 the company gave readings of two plays, Any Woman Can and Mister X. On their fiftieth anniversary these short plays will be read by a non-professional cast and followed by a short discussion with Gavin Barlow (Creative Director, The Albany) and Paul Green (Bijou Stories)
If you are interested in being a reader please contact Paul on [email protected] You do not need acting experience (though you can have!) and we will have a couple of rehearsals beforehand.
