Funds 4 Turkey
  • London Fringe

You didnt come to Istanbul, so Istanbul came to you (along with a few London friends ). Join us for a fundraiser supporting queer and trans survivors of the earthquakes that hit Turkey in February 2023. No warm-up. All proceeds go to Lubunya Deprem and Kaf Kolektif. 7/10/12 - you choose. We'll see you there. Ak Ka is a character, perhaps a monster, who wanders between the walls of binary genders and even breaks those walls. She is an out of place, and thanks to you, a timeless player. Istanbul-based singer, songwriter, performance artist and DJ, Kbra Uzun is an LGBTQIA+ rights activist, working in Turkey and also on an international basis on various platforms. Kbra wrote, sang and produced the song titled ALAN2020 with Mx. Sr and it became an anthem during Istanbul Pride in June 2020MUST was born in Istanbul and graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Textile Design. Kika has been a make-up artist since 2010. In the last few years, they started to concentrate on stage works by using their skills on make-up, textile and dance. KAAN is the musical alias of London-based producer and curator Erkan Affan. He creates soundscapes inspired by his Indigenous Arab-Armenian heritage and folk music from Hatay province in southern Turkey, as well as by his upbringing in south London and in clubs across the city. An essential member of London's eclectic Night Slugs camp, GIRL UNIT's music is steeped in low-end pressure but also reaches toward a classic timelessness; time-honoured elements of production sit seamlessly alongside the most contemporary sounds, as Girl Unit densely layers radio gloss and big melodies over beats that take influence from a variety of Club and Pop sources.

Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this review has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.

Theatre MAD
The Make A Difference Trust fights HIV & AIDS one stage at a time. Their UK and International grant-making strategy is based on five criteria that raise awareness, educate, and provide care and support for the most vulnerable in society. A host of fundraising events, including Bucket Collections, Late Night Cabarets, West End Eurovision, West End Bares and A West End Christmas continue to raise funds for projects both in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.
