In the last few years, they started to concentrate on stage works by using their skills on make-up, textile and dance. KAAN is the musical alias of London-based producer and curator Erkan Affan. He creates soundscapes inspired by his Indigenous Arab-Armenian heritage and folk music from Hatay province in southern Turkey, as well as by his upbringing in south London and in clubs across the city. An essential member of London's eclectic Night Slugs camp, GIRL UNIT's music is steeped in low-end pressure but also reaches toward a classic timelessness; time-honoured elements of production sit seamlessly alongside the most contemporary sounds, as Girl Unit densely layers radio gloss and big melodies over beats that take influence from a variety of Club and Pop sources.
