There once was a skinny redhead who wanted to sing in Les Miserables. That failed, so now she flits in and out of the back room of the Dragonfly Cocktail Bar swathed in a myriad of interesting characters: a charming time traveller squeezing in her material about fellow ‘TT’s before her next jaunt through time; a bitter children’s entertainer muttering at a crowd of children and begrudgingly making balloon animals; a twitchy Welsh primary school teacher trying to make a speech; and Felicity Russell in thirty years time being interviewed by Edward without John about her amazing career.
It is a smooth production, each character distinct from the next with different accents and attitude. The time traveller’s pieces are a stroke of genius with potential for many more bits if Fliss gets the audience and bigger stage she deserves.
She encouraged some good-humoured audience members to share her limelight on stage and their collaboration worked as well as if it had been rehearsed, unlike most awkward audience participation where the poor schmuck is humiliated for a few seconds of flat humour and then shown back to his seat.
Fliss Russell is no beginner to the comedy scene or Fringe festival, having performed in EdFringe’s 2009 hit Shakespeare for Breakfast- A Midsummer Night’s Scream. She has an original take on her topic and spices them up with her multiple personalities and cheeky grin - go and watch it for some afternoon fliss.
