Four pupils await a class that will never start, in this new writing from Daniel Rayner, performed by Bleak Heart. As they engage in teenage bickering, chaos is unfolds outside as their fellow teachers and pupils tear each other to pieces in this take on the zombie genre. The characters represent various school stereotypes geek, freak, athlete and party girl, thrown together in a fight for their lives. The young cast evoke these characters extremely well, with the looks between them and the awkward physicality of teenagers particularly convincing. Angst over identity and fitting in is explored as the action moves on, showing none of the characters is happy with the choices and image they have made for themselves. The small stage creates an intimacy and tension is cleverly built, with the first appearance of a zombie making the audience jump in their seats. At times though some of the delivery is slightly stilted and the show could do with a little more pace however this was an early performance though and this may be solved once the cast have become more used to the performance space. It might also benefit from more use of sound to suggest the rampage taking place outside. In all this macabre coming of age tale of school, sex and zombies is a satisfying piece that will particularly appeal to teenagers with dark sense of humour.
