Its partnership with the historic opera houses Music Director Riccardo Chailly, famed for his own towering musical personality and vital music-making, summons performances of astonishing potency and subtlety.
Together, they look to Eastern Europe and beyond for the first of two concerts. They are joined by violinist and violist Julian Rachlin for the elegance and dancing rhythms of Bartks Viola Concerto, before Shostakovichs remarkable Twelfth Symphony. They open with the warm nostalgia of Enescus lyrical Second Romanian Rhapsody.
