Sir Donald Runnicles conducts this concert performance of Beethoven's only opera, telling a moving story of a wife's devotion and the resilience of human nature.

The General Music Director of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, acclaimed conductor Sir Donald Runnicles, leads a concert performance of the quintessential rescue opera Fidelio.

An activist is thrown into jail after attempting to expose a brutal regimes crimes and corruption. Left to die in his cell, his only hope lies with his wife Leonora " who will go to any lengths to free her beloved from the chains of oppression.

Beethovens only opera is a moving tribute to the power of love and the enlightening strength of humanity that resonates with us today more than ever. Its music " from stirring choruses to the most intimate of arias " continues to delight and inspire.

Visionary conductor Runnicles leads a fine cast of soloists, as well as Londons exceptional Philharmonia Orchestra, as part of the ensembles residency at International Festival 2022.
