Exploring Through Play
  • London Fringe

Inviting in Queer participants who have attended a Beginnings workshop, or who already have experience with understanding Kink through an embodied, politicised lens.

We will continue from where we left off in the last Beginnings workshop, this time focusing the session on active play with partners and allowing time for reflection and sharing. We will be working with touch, intuition, inner sense, communication with body and voice. There is zero pressure to explore erotically, but this will be an option.

We will be exploring the landscape of kink as an erotic and/or healing container and what this means for our bodies - getting to know our wants, needs, desires and edges of comfort. We will be exploring safety, power, identity - what safety means for us as individuals and how we begin to identify a safe container for ourselves, to then communicate with others. We'll also be reflecting on how we can use the knowledge and tools unearthed in this space into other parts of life, be it community, activism, parenting, the list goes on.

Feel free to come with partner/s, friend/s or solo and we will find creative ways of pairing up for play, with the option to change throughout.

The workshop will be held in a beautiful and intimate playspace in Walthamstow, kitted out with toys and equipment which you are free to use in your play. Feel free to bring your own toys as well if you would like.

Accessibility: The space is on the ground floor with one step to enter. Sadly it is not wheelchair accessible due to door widths, and the toilet is not wheelchair accessible. We will have stim toys to play with and there is a quiet area with a sofa if you need space or a less stimulating environment. The space is fairly small and the window will need to be closed for privacy from the street outside. We do have an air purifier but if you are immunocompromised please let me know before the event and we can take the necessary precautions. Please could everybody do a COVID test before attending.

Please note the workshop will be documented (photo/video) to be able to make it easier to promote and sustain future ones. You can let us know at any point if you would rather be left out or have your face left out. We will have wristbands for these different requests, and all requests will be respected.

Snacks and refreshments will be provided, please let me know in advance if you have any allergies which might require a food type to not be in the room (eg airborne nut allergies)

Look forward to seeing you there!

Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this review has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.

Theatre MAD
The Make A Difference Trust fights HIV & AIDS one stage at a time. Their UK and International grant-making strategy is based on five criteria that raise awareness, educate, and provide care and support for the most vulnerable in society. A host of fundraising events, including Bucket Collections, Late Night Cabarets, West End Eurovision, West End Bares and A West End Christmas continue to raise funds for projects both in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.
