BachGeschwinde, ihr wirbelnden Winde BWV 201
Zerreiet, zersprenget, zertrmmert die Gruft BWV 205
Performances that entertain, amuse, provoke and surprise: Scotlands Dunedin Consort is one of the worlds finest early music ensembles, its fleet, fresh music-making directed with exceptional vigour by harpsichordist and scholar John Butt.
Bringing the Queens Hall series to a gloriously theatrical close, the Dunedin players and Butt offer a rare chance to experience the closest J S Bach ever came to opera, in two larger-than-life cantatas.
Geschwinde, ihr wirbelnden Winde depicts a bitterly fought song contest between Apollo and Pan representing high and low art, in a satirical work of biting wit and dashing invention. In Zerreit, zersprengt, zertrmmert die Gruft, meanwhile, the goddess Athene begs wind deity Aeolus not to spoil the celebration for Leipzigs favourite professor " in some of Bachs most opulent, joyfully inventive music.
