It may seem surprising that Dr Brown, Phil Burgers, has turned his comic taste towards a children’s show, given his panache for brazen vulgarity and extreme physical comedy, often at the audience’s expense, but if you keep everything that Dr Brown stands for, minus the crudeness, it makes him the perfect entertainer for children and adults alike. His hour-long afternoon show is full of pure silliness and slapstick comedy.
The Singing Tiger, comedian Stuart Bowden, greeted the audience with a song on a ukulele as everyone filed in and continued to sing every word or onomatopoeia he uttered. When the show began, Dr Brown appeared seemingly out of nowhere with lots of giggles from the children.Dr Brown proceeded to go through the events of his day with the assistance of the Singing Tiger and the audience. He communicated entirely through pantomime and gestures, for which the Tiger gave him a voice. In the tradition of great clowning, he is completely unable to accomplish his tasks properly on the first go, but Dr Brown is more than just your ordinary clown. It became evident very quickly that this show was guaranteed to be different every time based on what the kiddies offer up to the good Doctor and his Tiger. Usually it’s Dr Brown making his audience uncomfortable with his affinity for chaos and inventive interactions, but when it comes to kids, even Dr Brown might be at a loss. They have the capacity to make even Burgers break character, much to the hilarity of the parents.
This is a fantastic comedic experience that will have you giggling all over and the kids talking about it for ages. This particular day was a completely sold out show and future tickets are likely to go quickly.
