An ambitious cross-artform project by artist, composer and performer Hanna Tuulikki, investigating deer mimesis within traditional dance, specifically the Yaqui Deer Dance in Mexico and Arizona, Highland Fling in Scotland and Abbots Bromley Horn Dance in Staffordshire, England. Examining how the mimesis of deer behaviour within dance constructs wilderness as the site for the cultivation of hetero-masculinity, this project will explore technology and costume as practices within gender performance that extend body and expand perception. Commissioned by Edinburgh Printmakers as part of the Edinburgh Art Festival 2019, with research and development support from Magnetic North.
