In 1880, Debussy was piano teacher and accompanist to the children of Nadezhda von Meck, a wealthy patroness. During this time, he met two Moscow Conservatory graduates, cellist Pyotr Danilchenko and violinist Wladislaw Pachulski, formed the Von Meck Trio, and wrote the Trio en Sol Majeur. The Cello Sonata and Violin Sonata were composed much later and were to be included in a set of six sonatas for various and unorthodox combinations of instruments. However, the project was cut short by Debussys death in 1918; the Violin Sonata was to be his last work.
