Darius Davies… I’m sort of in love with him. He has it all; a hilarious Free Fringe show, a wonderful compere (Alex Perry) and (I quote my flatmate) ‘the most piercing eyes, I felt like he was looking into my soul’. All in all, the epitome of a five star Free Fringe show, which was probably helped by looking like the Iranian version of Tom Hiddleston.
Perry got the show off to a start with some general banter with the audience. He did everything a compere is meant to do – welcome and relax the audience, get the laughter going and introduce the main act with flair and humour. Perry provided with the perfect introduction to a great hour of comedy- a very funny man and a good start to Davies’ show.
Davies’ material was original and refreshing, drawing on real life scenarios which we could all relate to. His material on the three pin plug I found particularly hilarious (a sentence which I never thought I would have the opportunity to say). He was confident and energetic while performing, managing to maintain his enthusiasm throughout. Davies plugged his material expertly (shaky though that pun was).
His material varied a great deal, from his Iranian family stories to the majesty of the three pin plug to who knows what else - all I know is that I was laughing and laughing a lot. Davies is a genuinely beautiful performer and comedian and I mean that both metaphorically and literally. His show is a solid hour of raucous laughter and great banter with two top notch comedians.
