Dame Evelyn Glennie discusses her extraordinary musical journey and the challenges and rewards of life as a professional musician.

Dame Evelyn Glennie is the first person in history to create and sustain a career as a full-time professional solo percussionist. In 1992 she became the first musician to perform a percussion concerto at the BBC Proms. She has commissioned more than 200 works, from composers including Mark-Anthony Turnage, Sally Beamish and Sir James MacMillan.

Alongside her performing career, Glennie has written music for live performance (including for the RSCs 2018 production of Troilus and Cressida), and for radio, television and film. She is founder of the charity The Evelyn Glennie Foundation, and gives masterclasses across the world. Her awards include two Grammy Awards, the Polar Prize and the Companion of Honour.

The Make A Difference Trust fights HIV & AIDS one stage at a time. Their UK and International grant-making strategy is based on five criteria that raise awareness, educate, and provide care and support for the most vulnerable in society. A host of fundraising events, including Bucket Collections, Late Night Cabarets, West End Eurovision, West End Bares and A West End Christmas continue to raise funds for projects both in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.
