Hudson & Hackett are two young women with an established entertainment background (Hudson presents Brainiac, whilst Hackett has written for 'Smack the Pony'), and they come together here for an afternoon hour of easy comedy with a series of sketches around a seaside theme.
We start with a clever burlesque double-act striptease with taped voiceovers of the thoughts going through the characters' heads (am I going too fast?, does my bum look big in this?).
From there, it's into a series of quick-fire sketches, with some running gags throughout (I enjoyed the series of historic figures at the hairdressers - Henry VIII's wives, Marie Antoinette, Margaret Thatcher), and there's also a nice series of Elaine Paige / Barbara Dickinson skits which work very well.
They didn't pull everything off however - there's a couple of numbers let down by weaker writing - but in a show such as this it's hard to produce winners every time. There's a wee bit of an adult theme to it at times, so probably best to keep the younger kids away.
The audience seemed especially appreciative, and still supported the girls with polite laughter during the less robust material.
So, nothing to set the heather alight here, but a good solid hour of sketch show comedy.
