Britpop band Cast's live performances have been compared to a ‘religious experience’ by the Gallaghers.Every member of the audience - of which there was a great number - were caught in one of the most incredible atmospheres I have ever witnessed. There was a rain of thrown drinks, the constant stomp of feet, the roar of singing along. The band too were a constant thrill to watch, throwing themselves around the stage even though they were not the youngest group of men.It must be said, however, that their music was not quite my cup of tea. They have a distinct lack of catchy songs, instead presenting a series of powerful rock anthems. Praise must also be given to their support artist, Aaron Wright. Whilst encumbered with a broken foot his music was wonderfully folky without being whiny or weak, aided by a beefy pulse of guitar, percussion and haunting vocals.Whilst I might prefer what he did to that of the headliners, there is no doubt they were better showmen, never forgetting that most important fact to remember - that you must perform to and involve an audience. This was a band who were there to please and support their crowd, to the point of turning on security when they dragged people out from the front. See them if you want a great atmosphere and a great night, but don’t expect it to be a sing-a-long.
