Spud Theatre's stage adaptation of the nineteenth century novella, Carmilla, by the Irish author Sheridan Le Fanu. It is one of the early works of vampire fiction, predating Bram Stoker's Dracula (1897) by 26 years. The story is narrated by a young woman who is preyed upon by a female vampire named Carmilla. It was an extremely daring and controversial work for its time, both in its depiction of a lesbian vampire and in its challenge to the traditional Victorian view of women as passive creatures reliant on men for protection.
