Can Attachment Save Psychoanalysis from Extinction? Professor Jeremy Holmes lecture for Psychotherapy Sussex
  • Brighton Fringe

Psychoanalysis is in retreat as CBT has become the dominant psychotherapeutic paradigm. Does this matter, and if so, how can a 21st Century psychoanalysis emerge? I hope to show how the relational approach and evidence base of contemporary Attachment Theory provides at least some of the answers. The neuroscience of intimate relationships and role of language in therapy are two of the topics I will cover.Professor Jeremy Holmes MD was for 35 years Consultant Psychiatrist/Medical Psychotherapist at University College London (UCL) and then in North Devon, UK, and Chair of the Psychotherapy Faculty of the Royal College of Psychiatrists
