Build a Rocket is the story of Yasmin, a sixteen-year-old girl from Scarborough, whose life is not sandcastles, arcades and donkey rides... she finds herself pregnant and alone in the world.A unique and bold production propel this hard-hitting yet inspiring story, written by Scarborough-born Christopher York, along a whirlwind journey and challenges perceptions about young motherhood.Yasmin's story propels us through morning sickness, early motherhood, and school uniforms ending with Yasmin awaiting her eighteen-year-old sons A-level results. The journey between these moments is where Yasmins defiant and all-conquering spirit blooms.Performed by Shannon Rewcroft and directed/designed by Jordan Langford, this production was first performed at Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance and has been shared at venues including The Club for Acts and Actors, Leeds Playhouse and Stephen Joseph Theatre Scarborough.This explosive and powerful one-woman show was first produced by the Stephen Joseph Theatre in the summer of 2018, touring to Latitude and the Edinburgh Fringe before embarking on a full UK tour.
