A screening of multi award-winning film Black Snow, about the legacy of Britains biggest ever mining disaster (Barnsley, 1866), and how a community absorbed that heritage into their lives today. This uplifting show, with songs, laughter, some tears, is a celebration of coal mining communities and Prof Stephen Linstead relates how making the film informed his ideas of community and celebration. Book-ended by songs and stories of mining life from BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominee Jed Grimes. Jeds informative, entertaining song introductions add greatly to the understanding of those communities.
