The volume of shows presented at the Edinburgh Fringe can sometimes be overwhelming, so the Waterloo Comedy Club has put on a free show to give the audience a taster of some of their top talent. The host announced that six comedians would take to the stage, each with around seven minutes to make a few jokes and convince the audience that they should give their show a try.
Each day sees a different line-up of acts hoping to entice a bigger audience, so the performance is slightly hit and miss. Out of the five acts presented yesterday (one was a double act), the only one that was worth watching was The Tim and Pat Show. It is a difficult task to pick out the best bits from your show and try to fit them into seven minutes. The majority of the performers seemed ill-prepared, choosing to improvise and make countless jokes about the sauna-esque venue rather than prepare any genuine material. All of the comedians were amateurs and some lacked basic comedic skills, with the headliner of the show being utterly rude to some audience members.
The host of the show was probably the highlight, providing the vast majority of the laughs. Apart from that, the jokes were few and far between. Since there will be a different line-up every day, it is hard to judge what the quality of the show will be like on other occasions, but on this particular day, many of the acts were bland and poorly organised.
