Ben Dover, the self proclaimed 'Prince of Porn' really wants you to think he has the rudest show in Edinburgh (no doubt hoping for some publicity grabbing 'controversial' headline). We're even warned early on to prepare for a few walk outs. If truth be told though, there's nothing that offensive in this show. The fact that the audience is made up mainly of couples of all ages tells us pornography isn't much of a taboo subject anymore.Mr Dover (real name Lindsay Honey) is one of the UK's leading porn pioneers. He's starred in and directed over 150 adult films spanning a 30 year career. This show is an insight into his work in the porn industry, from how he got started, to the more business side of things today. There's numerous anecdotes from behind the scenes of his film shoots, and more bizarre insights such as the slang terms used for various sexual acts (you'd never guess how a 'Clark Kent' got its name). However the more interesting and funny material comes from his account of the court cases and subsequent time spent at her majesties pleasure. Many comedians regularly mine the seam of jokes based on sex, masturbation and porn. It's understandable then, why Dover felt his vast experience in this field would be good enough reason to put on his debut show at the Fringe, He's not a natural stand-up though (and doesn't profess to be one), looking like he's just learnt the basics of how to get through his material. However this is more than made up for with good stage presence and is surprisingly likeable - I suppose you have to be a bit of a showoff to get on in his industry. Challenging the audience with questions not even a drunk heckler would be brave enough to answer, he manages to maintain a fun and playful atmosphere.Warning - He can't resist a few good puns, with a trip to the sperm bank to make money 'hand over fist', and coming up against 'stiff competition' raising a few groans. If you're a fan of his work then you'll love finding out what REALLY goes on behind the scenes. If you've never seen his films, this show will still make you laugh, as long as you keep an open mind. And there were no walkouts; and if anyone does, they're clearly in the wrong show to begin with.
