Amusements

Step inside the auditorium of Sleepwalk Collective and let yourself be taken on a cognitive journey through the subconscious that stimulates from inside out. Placing on a headset and being plunged into darkness, one suddenly realises that the ‘in’ of the in-flight manual was meant to warn you that this trip is one of internal - rather than external - exploration.

Travelling deep into the darkness, to the furthest recesses of the mind, the audience is finally invited to open their eyes and meet their in-flight attendant. Lara Solano Arana is the sensual stewardess who will guide and direct you throughout this intimate and provocative experience. She instructs you on how and when to place your emotional baggage in the overhead lockers and informs you that seat belts will not be needed because ultimately, the aim of this game is to feel like you’ve been in a plane crash. Sounds strange doesn't it? Well that’s because it is. It is also beautifully arranged, powerfully poignant, and erotically alluring.

It feels like a Hollywood Sci-fi film - The Matrix or Total Recall - and one cannot help thinking this is the future. Lara’s brilliantly captivating performance deserves more of an ending, however, as both she physically and the purpose and point of this production fade to black. You be will left quite literally, wondering what you have just seen - but a good way.

Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this review has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.
