The thing about the Moose Comedy Awards Gangshow is that it’s never the same – but you can always count on it to be entertaining. The show promises to show the cream of Fringe comedians – and that’s exactly what it does.
The show I attended had five comedians performing, as well as Joey Page as a very entertaining compere. First up was the game-loving Stella Graham, who had some amusing facial and physical expressions. Next up, the very tall Pierre Novellie who told some great South African jokes. Then there was Sindhu V, who entertained the audience with tales of her relationship with her absurd mother who thinks everyone wants to kill her. A part of her comedy is the Indian accent she can put on when imitating her mother - in line with Russell Peters imitating his father. A child in a full grown teenage body (his own words), Simon Feilder, with his amusing children’s voice-over voice, was up next. Finally, headlining was Ian Smith with his funny doctor’s office encounter involving his testicles.
This show gives the audience a preview of some of the best comedians on the Fringe, although most of them have a full show themselves and you will only get a glimpse of each comedian. The positive is that you will see a few comedians and if you particularly like one then you can go and see their entire show. Another positive is that if you don’t like one of them, they won’t be on stage that long and before you know it there’s another comedian before you. The negative side is that you only get a few minutes’ glimpse of each act, so you don’t really get to know each comedian well enough and they don’t have enough time to take their audience on a journey. Nevertheless, it’s a sure hit for a good night out.
