Three young talented comics take over with a show full of improvisation, riffing and household observations. There are flashes of real comic genius in their jokes that push the audience into a chuckling, whimpering mass of hysteria.
The opening comic Chris Turner warmed up the room for the family-friendly show with improvisation and riffing with a healthy side of puns. His riffing was cheeky but charming, and woven in with his material well.
Improvert David Elms delivered his material with a small smile, easing the laughter out of the enthusiastic audience with slow punchlines and pauses. He opens with a semi-autobiographical song ‘Guess Who’ that he sings with a flat voice but with plenty of gags.
Chortle Student Comedian of the Year 2011 Adam Hess is as charming as the two other comics, and after a spectacular gag about his girlfriend Lucy’s (short for Lucifer) revenge the audience were putty in his hands. Sometimes one joke can win over the audience and after that, everything they say wins loud laughter from the audience.
This is advertised as a family-friendly show and there were several jokes clearly meant for interaction with children, which were carried off well enough in their absence. Without the children present they worked in some more mature humour, which was easy to do as about half their show was improvisation anyway. This is a worthwhile show to escape from Edinburgh’s unpredictable weather and the show ends with Chris Turner performing an incredibly well done improvised rap using words offered from the audience. The best is definitely saved for last, but the show overall is incredibly satisfying.
