Crichton Kirk welcomes internationally renowned ensemble The Marian Consort, whose dynamic, fresh approach to Portuguese polyphony entranced audiences in 2017. On this occasion, the group tackle music from the pinnacle of English vocal music at the time of the Reformation, the works of the Catholic recusant William Byrd. The setting is a church designed in 1449 for a college of choristers with a sublime barrel-vaulted acoustic. Words and voices blend to numinous effect in this late-Gothic haven in the valley of Crichton.
