boys may strip down to their gleaming white Calvin Kleins – and further – in fact there are bottoms galore
We’ve picked out our top 5 performances for this weekend (21-22 May) that you’re guaranteed to love:
What:Parish Fete-ality: A Game of Scones
Where: The Warren: Studio 3
When: 19-20 May 21:30 21-22 May 15:30 23 May 20:00
Why: Hot on the heels on their smash hit Edinburgh Fringe show, The Accidental Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, comes Tobacco Tea Theatre Company’s latest. In the Parish Council elections, you win or you die. Villagers vie for power whilst a vicar, farmers and aristocrats are at war. Only one can survive as Hot Fuzz meets Game of Thrones.
What: The Marlowe Papers
Where: The Warren: Studio 2
When: 15, 22-25 May, 4 Jun 20:30
Why: “Doomed to exile he takes on a new life as a secret agent, a James Bond of the 16th Century, and his adventures enthrall us from beginning to end”. So began our five star review which saw The Marlowe Papers nominated for a Broadway Baby Bobby award. Our reviewer ended with “I could watch this masterclass in acting over and over again as it surpassed all my expectations and kept the audience captivated from beginning to end”. Need we say more?
What: Briefs
Where: Republic
When: 21-22, 28-29 May, 4-5 Jun 21:00 18-20, 23-27, 30-31 May, 1-3 Jun 21:00
Why: The Briefs boys may strip down to their gleaming white Calvin Kleins – and further – in fact there are bottoms galore. But everything is done with fierce self –possession, jaw dropping skill and style. This over the top celebration of the male physique, set to a brilliant musical backing track is ridiculous, silly, camp and slapstick but never loses its dignity and its beauty.
What: A Little Prince
Where: Brighton Open Air Theatre
When: 20-21 May 19:30 21-22 May 15:00
Why: The British premiere of a new musical adaptation of classic tale, The Little Prince, has excited our team. Combined with the gorgeous setting on Brighton Open Air Theatre (as long as it stays sunny), this could be a sumptuous evening in the Brighton sunshine for children and adults alike.
What: All The Nice Girls
Where: Sweet Waterfront 1
When: 8, 15, 22, 29 May, 5 Jun 16:45
Why: After watching a snippet of this at the Brighton & Hove Grown festival, All the Nice Girls caught our eye with the sweet story of forgotten Variety stars Gwen Farra and Norah Blaney. Have a nostalgic slice of music hall melodies and touching tales as the two 1920s West End stars are brought to life in a heart-melting performance.
