Brighton Insider: Just For Kids

Need something to keep the kids occupied this half-term? Looking for shows that suit parents and kids alike? We’ve trawled Brighton Fringe and discovered some perfect shows for 4 to 104 year olds.


Where: Republic

What: Brand new pop-up venue on Brighton Beach. You won’t be able to miss it.

Who: For kids of all ages you can’t go wrong with the bubblicious Amazing Bubble Man. The sell-out family dance party returns as Baby Loves Disco presents its beach ball. With free ice lollies, face painting, crafts, balloons and much more, make sure you dress for a beach party. Following the success of their CBBC show, Little Howard’s Big Show for Kids are bringing their unique family comedy to Republic this Brighton Fringe! Finally, some time travelling Victorian magic from Morgan & West’s Utterly Spiffing Spectacular Magic Show for Kids will play for 2 days, not to be missed this half-term.

Where: Brighton Spiegeltent

What: Situated in the heart of Brighton, you can’t miss the hand-hewn pavilion purveyor of all things Fringe.

Who: Get your dancing shoes on as under 5s (and their parents) are let loose on the dance floor as Baby Disco Dance Hall returns from a worldwide sell-out tour. It's a swashbuckling adventure for three sailors in search of treasure (and possibly the best title of the Fringe) in Arr We There Yet?. Completely bonkers family entertainment comes from lovable clowns Cat & Nicko in Defrosted (eagle-eyed young viewers will recognise Cat as Bubbles the Mermaid in CBeebies show Spot Bots). Winner of the most outstanding comedy (Melbourne Fringe, the Best Comedy Weekly Award at Adelaide Fringe)is internationally acclaimed Tessa Waters with her must see show How to be a Rock Star.


Where: Sweet Venues

What: Edinburgh Fringe’s finest comes to Brighton with 4 venues and a host of award-winning acts.

Who: Award-winning children’s madcap and musical romp Beatrix will attempt to grow a beard in Beards! Beards! Beards!. Always wanted to be a minion of evil? Doktor James Akademy of Evil is full of tests and challenges to show just how wicked you are. Following sell out shows in 2014 & 2015, and nominated for the best family show 2015, Sesska returns to Sweet with his brand new show Milkshake!

Where: The Warren

What: Brighton’s largest venue is almost a festival within a festival, with 4 venues, a rooftop bar, children’s play area and 162 shows.

Who: Competing for the title of best show at the Fringe is Dr Zeiffal, Dr Zeigal and the Hippo that Can Never Be Caught, a weird and wonderful family show that will have kids storming the stage. The makers of smash hit sensations Shoe Baby, Penguin and Arthur’s Dream Boat are back with their new show Flyaway Katie. Based on the popular Children’s book by Polly Dunbar, with music by Tom Gray of Gomez (remember them?). LazyTown Live promises a 60 minute, non-stop show featuring original tracks from their hit TV show.

Best of the Rest

Stand-up without the swearing. For children over 6, their parents and anyone who likes clean comedy, James Campbells Comedy 4 Kids is the perfect show at The Old Market. Nutty Noah bringing his explosive dose of magic, music and mayhem to Komedia which also hosts one of the most delightful children’s stories you’re likely to see at the Fringe Pitschi, the Kitten with Dreams. The Edinburgh Fringe First Nominees, The Amazing Adventures of Little Red is at the Friend’s Meeting House with 7 performances in mid-May. At the Rialto Theatre, sample a combination of the most loved and less well known stories collected by the Brothers Grimm in A Pocketful of Grimms.

Their UK and International grant-making strategy is based on five criteria that raise awareness, educate, and provide care and support for the most vulnerable in society. A host of fundraising events, including Bucket Collections, Late Night Cabarets, West End Eurovision, West End Bares and A West End Christmas continue to raise funds for projects both in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.
