Fancy dress party for musical theatre fans in Greenwich this Saturday

For musical theatre fans, the Rose & Crown in Greenwich has always been a magnet on Tuesday nights due to their Showtune Jukebox nights that feature four hours of back-to-back video clips from the golden age to modern musicals that get the whole pub singing. But if you can’t go out on a school night, you’re in luck – this Saturday they're hosting The Big Showtune Party, and if you’re into cosplay you might just snag yourself an impressive prize.

Dress up as your favourite character from any musical and you could win yourself a 20% discount on food and drink for an entire year

The Big Showtune Party kicks off at 8pm on the 21st and includes all the usual line up musical theatre favourites – but dress up as your favourite character from any musical and you could win yourself a 20% discount on food and drink for an entire year. Even if you only return for a glass of pinot or three on Tuesdays, that prize could quickly add up to hundreds of pounds worth of savings. Even if you’re not the best dressed (sure you are, Dorothy!), there’s a second prize of 15% discount and a third place 10%.

So whether you fancy yourself as Frank’n’Furter from Rocky Horror or Elphaba from Wicked, hustle up that costume and get yourself to the Rose & Crown this Saturday. The pub is right next door to the Greenwich Theatre and easily reached via the DLR at Cutty Sark; mainline train services out of Cannon Street or take the River Boat to Greenwich (we like the last option – the boat has a bar!).

The Big Showtune Party starts at 8pm and ends when the pub closes at midnight. Regular Showtune Jukebox nights are on Tuesdays from 7pm until 11pm. You'll find the Rose & Crown at 1 Crooms Hill, Greenwich, London SE10.

Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this article has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.

Theatre MAD
The Make A Difference Trust fights HIV & AIDS one stage at a time. Their UK and International grant-making strategy is based on five criteria that raise awareness, educate, and provide care and support for the most vulnerable in society. A host of fundraising events, including Bucket Collections, Late Night Cabarets, West End Eurovision, West End Bares and A West End Christmas continue to raise funds for projects both in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.
