#EdFringe17 Comedy Q&A: Ed Night

Ed Night's debut hour long Edinburgh Festival Fringe show is called Anthem for Doomed Youth. It’s a comedy show about Ed’s depression. We fired over a Q&A to get more info.

The last book I read was The Good Immigrant. It's a collection of vignettes/stories by different people about the immigrant experience in Britain and it's very, very good.

Hi Ed, tell me about your show.

It's a show about loads of stuff. It's not done yet so what it'll end up being about is anyone's guess. Just come and see it in good faith. They don't just let anyone on E4 you know

What does Edinburgh mean to you?

It means tourists in Edinburgh Castle rain macs coming to my show and scowling at me as if it was my job to phone ahead and tell them how much it would be raining

Who inspires you and why?

Katt Williams because of that string of call-outs he did challenging Steve Harvey to a "comedy-off". I think comedy could do with more clashes

Describe your best or worst experiences on stage.

I used to do a bit about having a fungal infection and one night I had a bloke climb into the front row and get his knob out so he could show me his thrush. Still not sure if that falls into the best or worst category

Describe your best or worst review.

When I was 14 or 15 I had a little walk on part in a show and a reviewer described me as "pre-pubescent"

If you weren’t a performer, what would you be?

A plumber or something

What was the last book you read?

The last book I read was The Good Immigrant. It's a collection of vignettes/stories by different people about the immigrant experience in Britain and it's very, very good.

Should people come and see Ed Night's Anthem for Doomed Youth, which is on at 8:30pm every day (except the 14th) in the Pleasance Courtyard, at the Edinburgh Fringe?

Yes

Imagine that the BBC have asked you to produce a primetime show. What would it be and who else would be involved?

I'd make a documentary about lip balm so I could get all my lip balm off tax

Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this article has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.

Theatre MAD

Their UK and International grant-making strategy is based on five criteria that raise awareness, educate, and provide care and support for the most vulnerable in society. A host of fundraising events, including Bucket Collections, Late Night Cabarets, West End Eurovision, West End Bares and A West End Christmas continue to raise funds for projects both in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.
