The Underground Lovers were the quintessential Melbourne indie cult band of the late 90s/early 2000s. Theypushed sonic boundaries, won ARIAs and became famous for their signature use of looped sound effects, heavily layered shoegaze guitar rhythms and psychedelic lighting. After a self imposted hiatus they returned in 2009 with more great music. Their latest release,Staring At You Staring At Medefies singular analysis. Elements of pop, shoegaze, synth-rock and pounding bass feature throughout, but rarely at the same time. One thing is sure, itproves that guitar riffs fused with synth-pop are a timeless mixture.
