Truly Medley Deeply claim they are not just your average medley band. They also admit that they do not take themselves too seriously. After seeing their performance I realise what they mean. TMD are not average by any means. It’s just depending on whether you’re looking for some light-hearted fun or a show with some gravitas - they are either exceptional or appalling. They are a small group of young students who know their songs, have a plausible talent with musical instruments and above all, love to entertain. They were brimming with excitement throughout the performance, and it was contagious.Although this is only TMD’s second appearance at Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival, they have established themselves a firm fan-base whilst performing to students at Cambridge University, which they themselves attend. Similarly, this Edinburgh audience also mainly comprised of young students, and the loud cheers and applause that followed each of their medley sequences indicated that they were being well received. What's more, even though the show started 15 minutes behind schedule and no attempt was made to apologise, the audience forgave and forgot about it as soon as the show started. It is obvious why – TMD are highly entertaining, and once they start performing, factors like punctuality seem trivial. The group are unashamedly cheesy, silly and completely disorganised but have no qualms about it.Their seven themed medley sequences gave everybody something to sing along to, and by the end every member of the audience joined in. Consequentially, TMD were happily forgiven for their previous mistakes and technical glitches throughout the performance. The band are a tough one to judge – despite their faults they make it difficult not to like them. As promised, they do leave you with a smile but if you prefer something more original you might be left wondering if it really was worth it.
