The experience of watching the blue girl in Tretchikoff’s masterpiece The Chinese Girl break out of her frame to entertain an audience was exactly what I was waiting for in this year’s Fringe. Brought to life by Tricity Vogue through carefully applied facepaint, bright-blue eyeshadow, and a lycra bodysuit - also blue - the show is cheeky, uninhibited, hilariously quirky and highly entertaining. Celebrated London cabaret singer Tricity Vogue loves performing, and it shows. The big red smile on her bright blue face is contagious from the start. During the course of the show, Vogue sings a number of blue-themed songs in unexpected and extremely quirky guises. She also manages to throw in a popular Bollywood song in her very British accent – and I must add, there are subtitles for those of us who might have difficulty in understanding the unconventional lyrics.Vogue also very effectively manages to lure unsuspecting audiences up on the stage to join in her beguiling attempts to escape from the frame, while the ‘Art Obedience Enforcer’ isn’t watching. Vouge admits that it is actually the audience that make or break the show. So if you are planning on going to this truly Fringe spectacle, be sure to take your spunk with you!
