Tama On Ryosto - This is a Robbery

You would have to be as tough as a criminal to not be moved at least a little by Sankarits performance. This is a Robbery tells the tales of five criminals, played by Rosa Hyvönen, Miska Nygren, Emma Palomäki, Linda Peltonen and Miguel Shackleton. The piece demonstrates how the lives of criminals begin, progress and end.

What the group did with the performance was really smart: using lights and intense music they really engaged the audience. The darkness at the beginning was a bit unnerving, but once the action began it felt a lot like they had captured the sinister aspect of life and contained it in a safe environment.

The actors themselves were great. They were constantly together and were entirely believable even though their only props were hoodies and crisp packets! The most interesting thing about them was that only one of them spoke English through the whole performance, yet they still had us hanging on every word.

The set felt very minimalist. It was comprised of four chairs, a table and two walls. This bareness made some parts of the play difficult to understand and a lot of imagination had to be used to decipher complicated gestures. However, all in all, the performance was extremely enjoyable and a must see. It is now my personal conviction that any criminal would reform if they had a chance to see this beautiful play.

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this review has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.

The Blurb

Sankarit Theatre Company is supported by Helsinki Youth Services and consists of a group of young people from Finland. Despite the disabilities of these young artists, they are strongly capable of creating stage plays and performing them with intense charisma. This is a Robbery  was created by the group as they explored the wider theme of “ what is wrong in the world ”. From many things subjects they explored, stealing was chosen as something the group wanted to understand better. During the creation process, Sankarit researched the reasons, routes and consequences of stealing. This group has the ability to move your heart.
