The Free Fringe is a vital part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, keeping alive the bohemian ideal that any performer can take part as long as they have a venue. The Laughing Horse is one of the better legs of the Free Fringe and Paddy Lennox has taken advantage of this with his show Sucker Punch. With a soft Irish accent and big Ardal O’Hanlon-like eyes, you wouldn’t expect the jokes that come out of this sweet man’s mouth…
Although it’s only 5.30 pm and a lot of people have got dinner on the brain, be prepared for some shock humour. Not too shocking that it will put you off tea, but shocking enough for you to think ‘did that lovely Irish man really just say that?’ It’s Paddy’s juxtaposition from image to word that makes his set one to keep you on your toes and a surprisingly good late afternoon treat.
The themes in Paddy Lennox’s set are nothing remarkable - nothing to make you think deeply about your own life - but enough to make for good comedy. He easily ties jokes and anecdotes together to make the set run smoothly and awkwardly involves the audience to its funniest potential. Sucker Punch is definitely a good way to experience the Free Fringe, especially if you like the naughty charm of an Irish man.
