Has Dr Evil been up to his usual shenanigans again? At first glance it looks like I'd just walked into a Marvel-Comics-created wicked plot. Lots of flashing lights, people gyrating wildly, shaking and flailing all about Bristo Square, while departure-lounge music plays fiendishly in the background to highlight the dastard genius of it all! As it turns out there was no need to call for a super hero, I'd just wandered into the Silent Disco.
If you've been to a festival recently, you'll have seen folk bopping away in silence, wearing a nice chunky set of headphones. This is the phenomenon of the silent disco. Two DJs playing two sets at different tempos, and participants have the choice of which to listen to. The result is two sets of dancers all getting their grove on in different time.
I must admit, when I was younger I used to pop on my walkman and dance to my own music if I didn't like what the DJ was playing, so its nice to be able to have a choice of what to listen too. Stunning lights and loving the retro styled headphones. Try taking yours off from time to time to observe others dancing along and occasionally singing along. Comic gold.
