After winning Best Newcomer at last year's If.comedy awards, you'd think that Millican might be under a bit of pressure to follow that up with something special. Thankfully she doesn't disappoint with her new show 'Typical Woman', a supposed internal study of male/female gender - which side does she use more of, and what is a typical woman anyway? She reveals the male side within her by impressing all the boys with her geeky Star Wars knowledge, but also wins points with the ladies, joking 'all boys do is eat meat and watch porn'. The relationship with her boyfriend also gets dissected with much hilarity, somehow managing to appeal to the teenagers and pensioners alike.Millican's delivery is effortless, and develops an instant rapport with the audience. Her success in part comes from a familiarity we 'think' we have with her character. Everyone knows a nice polite girl like her, and Millican exploits this image to great effect, though no matter how hard she tries, she's incapable of offending anyone - She'd make a good politician! The 'audience participation' part of a comedy show can sometimes make or break it, and in this show it proves to be a major highlight. We're asked what the best thing about being a man/woman is? Millican handles everything thrown at her, and gets a great deal of laughter from both supporting and chastising her volunteers. At the end of this section she tots up the answers to see if she's more male or female (five parts man/three parts woman tonight). This show is odds on for more comedy awards at the festival, and I'm already looking forward to next year.
