Pretty On the Inside

When a group of three Geordie comedians come together, the results can be surprisingly interesting. Si Buglass, Lee Kyle and Jonny Pelham ‘outta’ Newcastle are ones to watch. Each having their own 20 minute stint in an hour show, all presented their own unique sketch to demonstrate that, despite not being much to the eye, they are pretty on the inside.

Si Buglass appeared as his rapper alter-ego MC Biscuitz and, although getting off to a slow start with his just off-target jokes about 2Pac, the pace and laughs picked up as Biscuitz filled the quota for Fringe mandatory audience participation. Newly-named audience members MC Pixie and MC Cuddles engaged in a rap-battle, much to the delight of the audience and Biscuitz himself.

By far the funniest of the three was Jonny Pelham who had the audience in stitches. Certainly focussing on the title, Jonny wore his cleft palate and three, four or five nipples with pride. Anecdotes of his school days with the Blazing Bangladeshis and having therapists as parents barely gave the audience time to catch their breath.

Last on was Lee Kyle, who may not have been the best of the three to close on. Although with a good premise based around world flags and free Maltesers, jokes fell flat. Saying that, if you fancy a lunchtime time laugh then Pretty On The Inside can fill that craving.

Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this review has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.
