Madame With an 'E'

This is a show that I believe should be, and will be, an unexpected hit. Madame is an outrageous character originally created by Wayland Flowers, who passed away in the 80’s. She was a much adored aging diva who performed with Wayland around New York, and much of the American cabaret circuit. Madame went on to win an Emmy Award and become a television star appearing on shows such as Hollywood Squares and the Andy William’s show.

Although this is essentially a ventriloquist and dummy act, it is certainly a unique show in it’s own right. Having seen her first with Wayland, and now partnering up with the talented Joe Kovacs and musical director Michael Ferreri, it is evident that Madame has lost none of her biting wit, bitchiness or ego. She is a complete an utter mega star, and could easily be an American relation to Dame Edna Everage.

This is Madame’s first appearance in the UK, and although she was famous in the States, she never made it across the pond until now. With 2,000 shows to choose from, there is sure to be the odd gleaming gem that doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. Don’t let this happen. Madame craves an audience and deserves everyone’s attention. You need to put this amongst the list of must see’s. When word gets out it will be a sure sell out.

Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this review has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.

The Blurb

American TV star Madame, diva of decadence, has two Emmy Awards and absolutely no morals! She sings! Swears! She tosses around one-liners that few comedians are brave enough to mention. Outrageous! Warning: no children allowed. www.madameandme.com
