Just the Tonic Comedy Club's Midnight Show

Late night shows throughout the Fringe are well known for being a bit raucous, a bit crazy and best enjoyed with a bevvy or two. Just the Tonic’s Midnight Show lives up to the stereotype; there is a stag party present, a lot of drunks and hecklers a-plenty. It takes a compere with a strong stomach to get the crowds in the right spirit and there is no man better suited for the role than Darrell Martin. Darrell will host most midnight shows from Just the Tonic at the Caves and if tonight is something to go on, will do a damn fine job of them too.

Darrell will probably want to share a drink with you if you brave the front row, but watch your back, he has got ridicule at the heart of his comedy. As the founder of Just the Tonic, Darrell knows exactly what his crowd want to see: a stag down a jug of beer, a crowd member forced to do magic tricks and a heap of outstanding special comedic guests.

There really is high quality in the Just the Tonic lineup: previous year’s guests include: Daniel Kitson, Jimmy Carr, Jason Byrne, Jack Whitehall, Ross Noble, Sarah Millican and Jon Richardson. Tonight we are treated to sets from Henning Wehn, Mick Ferry and Paul McCaffrey. The guests get straight into the spirit of the late night show and even direct-talking, no-nonsense Henning Wehn rocks the boat with a bit of whimsy.

Seann Walsh, Carl Donnelly and Ed Byrne are just a couple of the other big names announced for future Just the Tonic Comedy Club's Midnight Shows and I’m certain many more great acts will be added to the bill. The shows take place every Thursday, Friday and Saturday throughout the Fringe, and if you like your comedy where anything can and will happen, then this is definitely the show for you.

Since you’re here…

… we have a small favour to ask. We don't want your money to support a hack's bar bill at Abattoir, but if you have a pound or two spare, we really encourage you to support a good cause. If this review has either helped you discover a gem or avoid a turkey, consider doing some good that will really make a difference.

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like.

Mama Biashara
Kate Copstick’s charity, Mama Biashara, works with the poorest and most marginalised people in Kenya. They give grants to set up small, sustainable businesses that bring financial independence and security. That five quid you spend on a large glass of House White? They can save someone’s life with that. And the money for a pair of Air Jordans? Will take four women and their fifteen children away from a man who is raping them and into a new life with a moneymaking business for Mum and happiness for the kids.

Theatre MAD
The Make A Difference Trust fights HIV & AIDS one stage at a time. Their UK and International grant-making strategy is based on five criteria that raise awareness, educate, and provide care and support for the most vulnerable in society. A host of fundraising events, including Bucket Collections, Late Night Cabarets, West End Eurovision, West End Bares and A West End Christmas continue to raise funds for projects both in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.
