This does largely what it says on the tin, though tinned goods would be beyond the pale for these two sisters as they long for the simple pleasures of the 1950s: baking and pretending to be happy.
Maeve Higgins styles herself as a lyrical assassin and has done stand up for the last two years. Lily bakes cakes on stage, which sounds like an odd premise for a stand up show, but these sweet, sunny and homely characters have some genuinely funny moments and charming banter. It did seem at times as if Maeve was using Lily as a foil for being unsure of her work, but as things progressed they grew in confidence and carried the audience more successfully.
Haling from a little outcrop called Cove (apparently the fated Titanics last port of call) they share their thoughts on boys, baking, bitchy friendships and God. The show carried a not suitable for under 16s warning, which seems odd as there are plenty of laughs which are unlikely to offend as the ladies dont feel the need to scrape any barrels in search of comedy.
The show could do with an injection of pace and confidence, but if the cockles of your heart fail to be warmed by the pairs charming efforts the free cake is still worth the wait.
